The stunning region Alpstein is a fantastic hiking area with over 20 mountain inns and 400 km of hiking routes. Furthermore, there is a sizeable, well-signposted net of biking and inline skating routes. The city of St. Gallen includes the abbey district which belongs to the UNESCO world heritage site which includes the cathedral precincts with its stunning monastic library. St. Gallen has also achieved fame in the fields of textiles and architecture. You will also find a modern theatre, art galleries and a picturesque old town. For extended journeys by car it will take you 30 minutes to the German or Austrian border and less than 3 hours to Italy or France.
