PLEASE NOTE: OUR HOME COMES WITH TWO HOUSE CATS TO CARE FOR.
Large, homely and light family apartment in the very heart of Amsterdam. Situated in the cultural Jewish quarter, on a calm (not touristy) street, we look out over one of Amsterdam's oldest canals and regularly watch fabulous sunsets from our almost floor to ceiling windows. Close to many attractions with something for everyone and all easily accessible by foot, bicycle or public transport. Award winning restaurant and one of Amsterdam's foremost cocktail bars - if you fancy - across the street. Amsterdam, as well as the surrounding area (including beaches and nature) are on the door step to explore by foot, bike and tram/train. There are 3 bedrooms (plus an additional sofa bed in the open plan area if needed), 2 bathrooms and a large open living space for cooking, eating and lounging. Piano for those that would like to play. Finally, 2 loving easy to care for indoor cats. Visitors tell us that we have one of the best views in Amsterdam from the apartment - come and see for yourself! The apartment is used to kids - though ours are teenagers - younger children should not be a problem.

We are an English family long term in Amsterdam (Don't mention Brexit!). Kids now 16 and 13 were born here and attend Dutch schools. Both very active in sports and music.

Annie works for a not for profit Foundation in the management team running a global environmental programme working with the worlds largest clothing and footwear brands. Giles is a classical musician playing in orchestras such as the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra as well as the ballet orchestra which performs at the end of our street. Be prepared to come across instruments, music, more music, cds, records galore in our house.

We love culture - of which there is so much in Amsterdam and we love family travel new places and experiences and outdoor adventure which is our way of balancing the city life that we lead the rest of the time.

Where is it?

Something for everyone young and old. There is a so much to do within a short walk, cycle or tram ride. At the end of our street is the house where Rembrandt lived and worked (now a museum), the local fleamarket as well as the National Opera/Ballet. On the other end of our street is the Science Museum (called Nemo) as well as the National Maritime Museum - both great for kids of all ages including older ones! Hermitage Musuem is very close. Plenty and plenty more of cafes, bars, restaurants - nearby with a focal area being the Nieuwmarkt which hosts an organic market on a Saturday. We leave a list of our favourite places for guests. For the kids - the zoo is also close as well as a TunFun - a large indoor playground, laser gaming and bowling. This is the Jewish Cultural Quarter of Amsterdam so if you are interested in Jewish heritage there is the Resistance Museum, Holocaust Museum, Jewish Historical Museum and the Portuguese Synagogue - all fascinating insight to the history of this part of Amsterdam. With the big well known museums such as the Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh not far away there are also some of Amsterdam's hidden gems such as "Our Dear Lord in the Attic" very nearby. As the so called "Venice of the North" of course there is water everywhere which means boats and more boats and canals for endless light summer days or darker winter days with magical lights wandering along, stopping off at cafes or bars to enjoy world heritage views or just to people watch. Magic. If you are coming with kids, that need baby sitters for evenings we could probably connect you with some local babysitters.
