Our apartment is located on Java Eiland, a very central area of new-build architecture, criss crossed with charming little canals and inner gardens. It is one of Amsterdam's most sought after areas, for it's peaceful location, yet it's proximity to Amsterdam central station and all that central Amsterdam has to offer. Wonderfully peaceful and out of the city hustle and bustle but with a fantastic, fourth floor balcony view to Central Station and the city our apartment gets plenty of light through it's wall to wall, ceiling to floor living room window looking out over the water.
Light and modern the apartment is pleasant to be in and is warm and completely draught free during winter, unlike many older Amsterdam homes. fully centrally heated and with doors and windows to create pleasant cross breezes, it is comfortable in all seasons.
More information and photos of the apartment are available by email.
We are a family with 2 small children, so we keep our home fairly simple and uncluttered . It's clean, light and is fully equipped with a very organised laundry room (washer/dryer/folding surface/racks etc), separate office with bookshelves/desk/wardrobe, 2 bedroom. One is currently a children's bedroom with x2 small beds for children but we also have a very comfy and broad couch for an extra visitor/older child. We have a wonderfully large living room with half open kitchen. (dishwasher/large fridge and plenty of cupboards). We also have a full size Roland electronic piano that makes a surprisingly nice sound if you are so inclined :)
There is a front balcony large enough to sit on and enjoy the view and a larger roof terrace at the back.
The apartment can be accessed by stairs or by elevator (4th floor).
Car swap is a large camper (Hymer) that sleeps 4 and is cosy enough to stay in over the cooler months. So if you fancy some travelling in the Netherlands/Belgium then you are free to borrow the camper.
Great bikes and Bakfiets with childseats are available
Java Eiland is a wonderful residential new-build area located just to the East of central station. we are situated on the Javakade, which sits on the watersid ('Ij channel) with a fabulous view.
We are a Dutch/British family of two adults and two small children (2 and 4). Our work and hobbies are bodywork (pilates/yoga/aikido/massage) and interaction design/programming. We are mostly vegetarian, occasionally eating fish, but we don't mind being in non-vegetarian environments.
We are hoping to make our way back to living in nature over the next year and are particularly interested in 'checking out' Ibiza as a destination. Other locations, however, will also be considered.
Medium and long term swaps are also a possibility (without the camper!)
