“This property on the edge of Nairobi Park was so peaceful except for the planes flying over on takeoff. You soon get used to it. Sitting on the deck watching the animals in the park was the best. The food from the kitchen was delicious. The accommodation was very private and the grounds surrounding it were beautiful, the farm tour was also a highlight. It was a pleasure chatting with Joanna and her twin sons and all the staff went above and beyond to make our stay exceptional. ”

“It was just fantastic! Having breakfast and watching the giraffes -these giants- walking by was like a dream.”
“It's hard to find a place that is done and run with so much talent and love. Joanne and Craig have created an absolute wonderful paradise perched on the edge of the wilderness with such attention to detail. The staff are very helpful and contribute a lot to make every guest feel welcome and happy in the "family" of Ololo. The tented cottages have wonderful panoramic views and you feel thoroughly immersed in the wild.”
“Ololo is a magical piece of paradise, and cannot be recommended enough. The national park location is perfect for reconnecting with nature, the rooms are comfortable and gorgeous, the staff is extremely attentive, the food always delicious, and Craig and Joanna the most wonderful hosts. We couldn’t be more grateful for accommodating us during the busiest period. Thank you and all the best for 2021! ”
“Craig's set up is brilliant and a stay here will leave you more relaxed, more enthused, more informed than when you arrived. Mugumoini is right on the edge of Nairobi National Park and the guides who work at Craig's are friendly and passionate about what they do. Craig's family as well as all the staff here are absolutely lovely and we enjoyed our time here immensely.”
“This was our second visit to Ololo and we again received a very warm welcome from Craig and Joanna. Thanks so much for the lovely days we spent in your beautiful paradise! The staff were so helpful and the organic shamba just looks amazing!”
“Alolo lodge is a breath of fresh air in Nairobi. Set uniquely in the National park. Graig and Joanne have created a very special place. The moment we arrived we were greeted by happy smiling faces, warm face cloths and home made lemonade. The lodge itself is simply stunning, wonderfully appointed and tastefully decorated. The extra touches, great products, fluffy white towels, bathrobes and crisp white sheets make for the perfect stay. The food is fab.The organic garden and produce a veggies delight. Nothing is too much trouble for the staff. They even made gluten free bread for my son and catered so well for me as I’m vegan. I asked what I would have to eat each day and Francis said “ something beautiful “after that I left it to him! We particularly loved the piano and two evenings with Graig and his friends listening to my son play guitar. A special moment! The location is amazing. If you don’t think you’ll see many wild animals, think again. Lions, giraffes, zebra, baboons, buffalo, rhino, hippo, crocodile so many different deer and hundreds of birds. It’s all incredible and right on the door step. We absolutely loved Alolo and return in 8 days for one night before we fly home. An excellent swop! Thank you Graig,Joanna,Lemme and Francis and all the staff! ”
“This place was the most fabulous surprise for us!! We arrived from the back entrance with an interesting drive through small suburbs of Nairobi, which was an eye opener. But Ololo Lodge was just the most fantastic place we could have imagined. The main buiding was beautiful, lots of comfy areas to relax with an incredible deck looking across the river to Nairobi National Park where we watched giraffe grazing in the evening. The rooms were spacious, imaculate and full of character and good taste. The bed linen was beautiful, crisp and spotless as was the bathrooms and kitchen area. Absolutely nothing to fault. We had dinner once in the restaurant which was delicious. All the staff were super friendly and Craig was very helpful and a fantastic host. Very highly recommended if you are able to get here you will love it!”
“Fantastic lodge, fantastic view, fantastic food, fantastic safari, fantastic team ! Thanks for everything Craig, and perhaps we'll meet in Paris soon :-) And we hope we'll come back to your "Ololo dream". ”
“Staying at Craigs property was fantastic, awesome place to stay and even greater conversation!”
“We had an amazing stay! Food was great. People were sooo friendly. Grounds beautiful. Everything was perfect! ”
“My visits to Ololo have been really nice...i could not fault them for anything...We loved the piece and quiet, the food the staff and all the farming projects that go on at the property...we will be back again im sure ...Thanks Craig and Family”
“A superb stay, we were made to feeling extremely welcome and the accommodation was fantastic. We enjoyed some spectacular game drives, nothing was too much trouble. Our 3 day stay provided the perfect stopping off point before moving on to explore the larges game reserves. ”
“Ololo is a fabulous place, remarkable for its design features, the beautiful furnishings and attention to detail. We loved everything about it. We were in awe of the garden landscaping and of course the landscape beyond - we saw many giraffe from our terrace. It’s incredible to be somewhere so close to a city but have such close encounters with wildlife. Don’t be fooled that you won’t see much game because it’s so close to Nairobi. We had some real Attenborough moments on our game drives and I’d love to go out again and again! It was a really great start to our trip. Thank you so much for sharing your very special place with us. ”
“Its a lodge with a pool IN the national park what's not to like! Friendly owner and staff too.”
“Craig and Joanna are just perfect hosts. We were treated like VIPs but also like family members. Their property is stunning, the location is breathtaking, the food is divine, staff are lovely. What more can you ask? They farm a lot of their own produce (they will gladly show you around their farm and carpentry workshop) and take care in food delivery. Salads with flowers served in Kenyan wooden bowls or thin pizza on platters. So good! The Nairobi National Park is full of wonderful animals. We only stayed for two days and we saw lions, black and white rhinos, hyienas, jackals, lots of birds including kingfishers, sunbirds, beeters, curlew, storks, vulchers, herons, ibis you name it, wilderbeasts, zebras, giraffes, antelopes, elands, impalas, crocodiles, hippos and lots more. All the game drives are included and very worth doing. There are lots more excursions you could do from the lodge. My favourite bit was a visit to the David Sheldrick’s elephant orphanage where we could feed and play with baby elephants, some only 1 year old. So very special and unforgettable. We will be sure to come back to Kenya and Ololo with our kids!”
“We had the most wonderful time in Ololo Lodge. Craig and Joanna were very welcoming and communication was very efficient. Ololo Lodge is beautiful and our cottage was so comfortable, probably the best bed we ever slept in actually... We traveled with our twin boys who were 7 and they particularly enjoyed Ernest's company on the game drives. Ernest is so knowledgeable and had wonderful conversation with our children about the biggest animals on land, the different types of cats or the fastest animal on earth.... Our children still talk about you Ernest after 2 months of being in Kenya.....Thank you everyone for making our trip so special!”
“During February we had the pleasure of staying at Joanna and Craig's Ololo Lodge for five wonderful days. The lodge and cottage accommodation were stylish, comfortable and so thoroughly Kenyan. With Craig's tutorage and assistance, the trip was easy to arrange. While we were looking forward to our stay, words cannot describe how perfect the whole trip was. The Ololo staff, led by Lenny, treated us more like family than guests. Nothing was too much trouble - the food was fabulous and the views and ambience stunning. There was plenty to do - early morning or late afternoon safari drives through the national park; having massages and lazing by the pool, fun dinners around the table, visiting the local arts and crafts centres and of course - spending time at the Giraffe centre and the elephant orphanage. Ololo is situated close to all these attractions. Sylvester, who runs his safari drives from Ololo, knew just where to take us to find the animals we wanted to see and was endlessly patient in stopping for photos and explanations. We left a piece of our hearts at Ololo. Couldn't recommend the place and the people more highly. Thanks Craig and Joanna!”
“My trip at Ololo was amazing. look forward to going back some time soon.”
“We had an amazing trip to Craig and Joanna's beautiful lodge, Ololo. It really is like heaven on earth and one of the most special places we have every stayed in. It is beautifully presented and Joanna's interior design and attention to detail is clear. To be able to watch the monkeys and giraffes pass by while having breakfast was a unique experience. The staff who made us feel so welcome made a big difference too. Steve who took care of everything we needed; Earnest our driver, Fred our watchman and the lovely ladies who kindly did our laundry for us too. The food prepared by their chef was also excellent. We felt like part of the family and our 3 year old loved it too. I feel like we have made some new friends with the team at Ololo and hope we can keep in touch. A great points swap and we hope to return again one day. ”
“Ololo is a well kept hidden spot close to Nairobi ...the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle life of the city. This 'oasis' with front row seats to the Nairobi National Park, is the place to lean back and relax with a perfect fresh swim in the morning, a chill late afternoon while having your favourite drink and playing chess and in the evening you can spot from the lounge area the wild animals as the baboons are settling their family affairs. In between you are served with the most amazing dishes made with fresh home grown veggies and herbs with only one challenge at your side: to enjoy. The rooms in the old stables are Cosy, romantic with a bed that is tempting to take afternoon naps. The hosts are warm, inviting and friendly with an impressive approach of running the lodge where eco - and animal friendly underlines the exclusivity. The staff are friendly and attentive making our stay at Ololo a perfect experience. We are definitely going back! ”
“We always love having Craig and his family staying with us.”
“Craig cancelled the trip on Oct4th due to a new job. He wrote that he can make it next year. I asked to to write a rebooking request on the site to make sure we can approve.”
“Was a pleasure and welcome to visit us any time again!”
“Charley and his friends were fantasitic, really enjoyed their company and meeting them. Would love to have them visit Tandala again. ”
“This was the second time we welcomed Craig's family and just as the first time they were excellent guests. They are welcome back anytime”
“Craig and his family are experienced home swappers, which you can tell instantly in how they communicate and take care of the home. We really enjoyed welcoming them and hope that we will be able to visit their fantastic home in Kenya before too long. ”
“HORRIBLE. Craig sent his university-age son with 5 friends. In the several years, we have used the property personally and with over 100 AirBNB stays, this is the first time our neighbours texted to complain about the noise. The broke a chair, tried to hide. Left a brand new crab pot at the end of the jetty (which they had not asked to use) and it was broken and had to be thrown away. Put dishes away oily and greasy. My cleaner charged me double and was unhappy. They left some stray clothing and were generally REALLY BAD GUESTS> To top it off. their father sent me a note saying how lovely his son is and how he volunteers in third world countries. Never offered to pay for the cleaning, the broken chair or crab pot. Disgraceful.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Guest response : Dear Charles, I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience. We have also done a number of swaps and never had a problem. But firstly, I’d like to make some things clear. Regarding the noise – it was a Saturday night at 8pm, and the Rugby Grand final was on. I’m sorry about the noise but we made sure we turned down the volume once we received your text. It was stormy weather for most of the weekend, so unfortunately we did bring a fair bit of mud into the house. We looked for a mop and bucket but couldn’t find one – we’re sorry about the cleaning bill. I offered to speak over the phone to offer my apologies and pay for any damages, but received no reply on this. Again, happy to chat and sort things out. Jim ”
“Craig's son Charley stayed at our home and he was the kind of guest you wish for. He was kind, uncomplicated and treated our home like it was his. I can highly recommend him to other hosts!”
“Lovely guests. Left our place clean and tidy ”
“Everything was perfect!”
