Notre maison
I offer a cosy, modern apartment in Prague-Letna, one of the Czech capital's most sought-after residential areas. The apartment is situated in a modern house with an elevator, an underground garage, and central heating built in 2005. It is located on the second floor and has a floor area of 62 square meters, of which 5.5 square meters is a sunny balcony. Even though located in a lively neighborhood, the apartment is quiet. The tenants are a mix of Czech professionals and foreign-born businessmen and diplomats, which testifies to the attractiveness of the neighborhood.
My apartment is situated in the heart of the picturesque and trendy Letna district, on a beautiful tree-lined street that connects two of Prague's biggest and most beautiful parks: Letna and Stromovka. While the Letna Park offers breathtaking views of the city, the Vltava river, and its bridges, the huge Stromovka park, set up in the year 1268 as royal hunting grounds, is ideal for relaxation, feeding ducks, playing with children on its many playgrounds, jogging, cycling, inline-skating, or playing tennis (Martina Navratilova or Ivan Lendl used to play there).
Letna is the district of diplomatic missions and villas, yet only 15 minutes walk (or 3 tram stops) from the old historic center of Prague. The Old Town Square, the elegant Parizska Street, the Jewish Quarter, Wenceslas Square, the Charles Bridge, the Lesser Quarter, the Prague Castle (Hradcany), and the city's other landmarks are all within easy reach. The central Letna Square tram stop (tram numbers 1, 8, 12, 25, 26) is a mere 100 meters (one-minute walk) from my apartment. Two subway (metro) lines (A and C) are a couple of tram stops away and will take you wherever you need to go in Prague.
The apartment consists of:
One bedroom with a double bed, a chest of drawers, book shelves, and a desk with a laptop computer (connected to high-speed internet) and a printer/scanner.
A living room with a separate dining area, a sofa that can be easily converted into a double bed, and a TV/video corner. In addition to Czech and Slovak channels, my cable TV provider UPC provides some German-language channels (3 SAT, ZDF, ARD) and major international news channels (CNN, BBC World, Deutsche Welle, France24, Euronews, and Russia Today).
A fully equipped modern kitchen with dishwasher, stove with oven, refrigerator with freezer, microwave oven, boiling water cattle, toaster, Nespresso coffee maker, etc.
Bathroom with bathtub, separate shower, wash basin, toilet bowl, and washing machine.
Entrance hall with a large wardrobe, coat rack, and a chest of drawers
Separate walk-in wardrobe with shelves and space for hanging clothes.
Balcony with a table and two chairs.
Except for the kitchen, the bathroom, and the balcony, which have tile floors, there are wooden floors throughout. The apartment is being cleaned regularly by a very thorough cleaning lady. There is an ample supply of bed linen, towels, etc in the chest of drawers in the bedroom and in the walk-in wardrobe. I have prepared a “user’s manual” for the apartment, which I will forward to all home exchange partners, along with information about neighborhood amenities. My nephew and my sister, who both have keys from the apartment, live nearby and handing over the keys is thus easy.

“Top location, great communication and a very friendly and experienced exchanger. Would come back any time. ”
“Leon’s communication/preparation prior to the move was excellent. His flat stylish, well equipped was in a beautiful location in Prague. We came to rely on his guide to the area as much as we did our guide book, we enjoyed getting to know the local area through his recommendations. This and his very good communication and general helpfulness made this a very enjoyable swap. It was very nice to have the opportunity to meet Leon in person too. Thank you again Leon and every best wish for your future house swops which I’m sure will prove to be to others as positive and enjoyable as ours Margaret, Sean and Olivia ”
“We stayed in Leon's apartment, situated in a quiet residential area of Prague, for 10 days during July/August 2017 and found it very well equipped with all the facilities needed to make our stay comfortable. The apartment is very centrally located with the tram station and Billa supermarket about 100m away, including other businesses and restaurants within easy walking distance. Leon is a wonderful person and host and met us on our arrival at the tram station. We also found our verbal communication and per email easy and relaxed. He provided us with important local information and advice which contributed to our experience in Prague. We can highly recommend an exchange with Leon.”
“Leon picked us up from the busstation and took the time to show us around in the neighbourhood. We stayed in Prague for a week in a very nice apartment with good beds! The location was great for us, just a few stops from the busy city centre, with a supermarkt and nice affordable restaurants and bars around the corner. We hope our next exchange will be as nice as this one.”
“I had a very successful stay in Leon's Prague apartment for 2 weeks in June 2014. Leon is very communicative, helpful and was quick to respond to any questions I had. He very kindly met me at the bus station in Prague, and gave me a very thorough orientation throughout the apartment and the neighbourhood which was very much appreciated. The apartment is well located close to public transport or if you wanted, you could walk into the old town. There are plenty of dining options very close by, supermarkets, bakeries, everything you need. There was even a wonderful independent cinema close by showing some English language films. The apartment is well appointed and had plenty of cooking utensils and basic pantry items which Leon was happy for me to use. It was very comfortable, and there was nothing I needed that was not provided. Leon has very helpfully provided a comprehensive guide to both the apartment facilities and the neighbourhood and public transport as well as general information and maps. There is a fair bit of traffic noise from the nearby main road but I understand that some of this will soon be diverted and it did not prevent me from sleeping well. I also found the apartment quite warm on hot days, but the doors and windows are able to be opened to counter-act this. The apartment building itself and the street are very quiet and I barely saw or heard any of the neighbours. Thanks for everything you did for me Leon, I had a great stay. I can thoroughly recommend Leon's apartment for an exchange in Prague. Cheers, Annie”
“Leon's flat in Prague is in the best position you can imagine, very calm in a leafy street with elegant art nouveau buildings. Then, in literally few meters ,you find yourself before a very convenient supermarket BILLA and in front of it there are tram stop for many lines of tram (in Prague trams are magnificent: clean, fast, you alway find a seat) that brings you everywhere in the city! A dream! I was really enthousiastic, and Leon himself is a very kind and gentle person - his manual of the flat and of the public transports gives you a lot of interesting information about the city . Prague is so beautiful and living in Leon's flat gives you the opportunity of enjoying the city at its best. ”
“I recently spent a very enjoyable week in the beautiful city of Prague staying at Leon’s flat. Leon is a kind and considerable host. He collected me from the airport and spent the day with me in order to show me around his flat and the surroundings. He then caught a late flight to London, therefore giving up the whole of his first day just to make sure that I was set up for the rest of the week. The flat is in a good position and public transport is literally 1 min walk from the front door of the building. So are a supermarket and every other type of shop you could think of. From the flat you can get comfortably to all major tourist attractions in appx 20 mins or so. I was glad not to be staying in the centre of Prague. It is far too busy and sometimes you can hardly walk for people. Leon’s area, Letna, is also busy during the day but quiet at night. The biggest park in Prague, Stromovka, is less than 5 mins walk from the flat. It incorporates Letna Gardens, which are on the way to Prague Castle. If you feel like getting some fresh air after an arduous day of sightseeing you can go for a walk in the park or enjoy a picnic during the summer. The flat itself is well equipped with everything one needs. There is a comfortable bed with Tempur mattresses, a good size bathroom with a big bath and separate shower, the living room has small dining table, a comfortable sofa and flat screen TV and the kitchen has all necessary appliances, even a dishwasher. I would recommend Leon’s flat without any hesitation.”
“We spent 12 days in July 2016 in Leon\'s apartment. The house is clean, spacious and very lovely. It is ideally situated between 2 lovely parks and numerous shops, very nice restaurants in the area (our favorite in the corner in front of the house!) it is all within easy walking distance, also the Nàrodní technické muzeum, one of the best ones in Europe, and just 15 minutes to any place of the center in different tram lines stopping across the main street. We appreciated Leon\'s hospitality very much, helping us with everything and making our week in Prague unforgettable. It was a very good exchange.”
“This is a wonderful, modern, clean, well equipped and very pleasant home. It is located in a beautiful residential area, between two large parks. It is also walking distance from a convenient grocery store and from trams that go to the old city and to other areas. We enjoyed excellent communication with our host before and during the exchanges as well as our stay in the home. It was a non-simultaneous exchange. We were very happy with the stay of our Prague hosts in our home. Our house was clean and tidy upon our return as we had left it. I strongly recommend this member.”
“Beautiful Prague with a Great Host. I visited Prague and stayed at Leon's apartment from 25 Sept to 20 Oct, 2017. Leon waited for me at Florenc bus station and shown around his house areas on my arrival day. This help me a lot to find restaurants, search for groceries and short cut walk to city center. The apartment is clean, neat and tidy with all facilities that i need. It is located at quiet area and within a walking distance to tram station, Prague Castle, supermarket and park. Prague is a historical and beautiful city with many tourist attractions i.e. castle, old town square, museums, galleries, Jewish quarters, shopping malls, historical buildings, movie shooting locations, etc. I also enjoyed a classical music concert at Lobkowicz palace and "Don Giovanni" opera at the Estate theater. The botanical garden and Letna park are very beautiful during autumn - carpeted with yellow and red leaves. I walked to a Prague zoo from the apartment. The zoo is big and well managed (you need to spend at least 4 hours here). I also visited a flea market on Saturday and Sunday to see an antique things and wonder around. Thank you very much to Leon for being a great host. ”
“Consider yourself very lucky if you make an exchange with Leon on this apartment. Its location in Letna-Prague 7 is excellent, being very close to a Tram stop and a Billa supermarket. Prague 1-where Charles Bridge, Old Town square are located- is easily accessed by tram in less than 15 minutes, it is also possible to go on foot. Prague has a very good public system and trams are way better than the Metro. Letna itself has its attractions, there are several restaurants just around the corner and 2 of the best parks in Prague. The apartment is very modern and has everything one can need. Leon is a great home exchanger, he made it a point to meet us when we arrived and provided a very thorough file with instructions to the apartment and hints on what to do in the surroundings and in Prague as a whole. He is a very experienced home exchanger and a very nice person. We are looking forward to host him in Rio and would definitely swap houses again. Several thumbs up.”
“Highly recommended. Leon was a wonderful host, he gave us a warm welcome and guided us through the streets of his childhood. Letna is a beautiful and lovely neighbourhood with lots of charming restaurants and places. It is close to the city center but out of the touristic runways, also great for travelling with children as there are clean parks and playgrounds nearby. Leons apartment had everything we needed and was in perfect condition. Hoping to be there again one day. Maris, Michael and Hannah (two years)”
“I spent a wonderful week in Leon's house, in Prague, in April 2018. The house was comfortable and well furnished and Leon was a kind and very considerate host. The city center was within walking distance, with a 10 minute walk through a wonderful park. Every day, during the walk, I could enjoy the view of the beautiful Prague at my feet. I am very grateful to Leon for allowing me to live an unforgettable experience. I would be ready to go back to his house at all times. Thanks again, Leon”
“We spent a nice week in the splendid Prague last September! Leon is the most generous person I ever met with Homeforexchane he helped me a lot to organize our trip from Wien and back and suggested very good deals! The flat is fully furnished in a very peaceful area, with a splendid park close to the flat and very near by supermarket and very close to public transportation, that run very well in Prague. We visited all around and didn’t miss our car at all! We are very grateful to Leon and we strongly recommend this member! ”
“Leon is a wonderful host, very kind and accurate. The apartment is very confortable, close to the centre. We enjoyed our holidays. Praha is charming and full of exciting opportunities, with magic atmosphere. We would like to come again. We would like to swap again with Leon”
“Leon's apartment is well located in Prague, in a secure, quiet building near shops and tram stops, restaurants and the contemporary art museum. There are excellent walks through nearby parks with views of the old town. The apartment has everything you need. We enjoyed our stay in Letna very much and Leon is an excellent host. He's such an excellent host that I now aspire to 'up' my own hosting game. Prague is a wonderful city undamaged by wars, with graceful architecture, live, quality music events all the time, excellent restaurants (I'm a picky vegetarian/coffee snob/world food aficianado) and access to the rest of Europe. We took day trips north and south. Don't think twice, just go to Prague.”
“Doug and I enjoyed this wonderful exchange for 12 days in May 2018 in the beautiful city of Prague. The apartment was comfortable, clean and well equipped. We appreciated its location within walking distance of the centre yet in a quiet neighborhood away from the hustle of many tourists. There are two large parks very close by and the tram station was less than two blocks away. We walked many kilometres, and rented bikes to ride through one of the parks and along the beautiful river. We enjoyed a city tour, the National Technical Museum (just blocks from the apartment), several concerts, the airship Gulliver in the DOX Centre for Contemporary Art and the humourous public art and sculptures and of course the beer. Leon was a gracious host and provided us with detailed information about his apartment, including how to use Prague's transportation system, and the neighborhood restaurants and attractions. He was very helpful throughout the exchange process, promptly replying to emails. He kindly met us on arrival, took us on an orientation tour of the neighborhood and provided ideas and answers to our questions. On the last day of our stay we met again and he toured us around some of the unique neighborhoods outside of the tourist areas. It was a pleasure spending time with him and learning of his life and culture. He and his brother kept good care of our condo. We highly recommend Leon as an exchange partner. ”
“What a pity we haven\'t met Leon personally (yet) - as all communication was so congenial and likeable. We had a good feeling knowing he was in our home, and when we came back there was nothing to complain about. As Leons daughter lives in our neighbourhood, we had the chance to get to know her when she was picking the key. We immediately liked her. What a friendly family. Looking forward to getting to know them better. We are sure, Leon is a perfect host.”
“We spent beautiful days in Praha The apartment is very near of tram which is very frequent and in 10 minuts we arrived at Praha downtown The street is quite with lots of trees and peaceful neibhours. The great park is just 2 minuts by bycycle which we enjoy a lot Leon wrote alot of informations about his apartment , Pragha city , restaurants etc. Praha is a flat city whifch allow us wondering a lot admiring its amazing ancient buildings Public transports are very good. People like to help whenever they saw a tourist with doubts Lots of oportunities to assist a very good classical concerts The communication with Leon was always easy and quicky We strongly recommend a swap with Leon..we will meet in future for sure...”
“We enjoyed 11 wonderful days at Leon\'s well located apartment in Prague. The location is terrific and once we mastered the trams, we were so impressed as to how easy it was to get around. Central Prague is just so busy so it was wonderful to escape to Leon\'s apartment , an easy 15 minutes away from the Old Square. We became regular visitors at a couple of cafes nearby both of which do fabulous coffee and tea, recommended by Leon as well as a few restaurants. Leon\'s apartment is very well appointed and comfortable . Leon went out of his way to provide us with all the information we needed about Prague ... Local and interstate buses and trams, opera performances, restaurants etctc. Prague is a wonderful city with so many amazing sights . Having the 11 days there enabled us to see Prague at our leisure as well as spending a couple of days at Cesky Krumlov a wonderful UNESCO city about 3 hours away. Leon was a wonderful host and left us with so much valuable information about Prague . We look forward to reciprocating and providing a similar experience for you when you come to Sydney.”
“Raccomando vivamente uno scambio con Leon, ci ha accolto calorosamente nella sua casa e nella sua città, è venuto a prenderci alla stazione e si è offerto di mostrarci il quartiere. La sua casa è perfetta, pulita e offre tutti i conforts, è vicina alle fermate del tram, a un supermercato, il quartiere è pieno di localini dove si può mangiare bene. Grazie Leon, abbiamo trascorso una bellissima vacanza e ci auguriamo di poter ricambiare tanta gentilezza presto. A presto Gianni Danila e Micol”

I, Leon (67), am a native of Prague and speak Czech, German, and English, as well as some Russian and Hebrew. I have lived in Vienna, Austria, for more than 50 years now and Vienna remains my main home. The apartment in Prague is thus my secondary residence and, as such, it is available most of the year, practically any time. This also means that the exchange need not be simultaneous.
-
Recently retired after 35 years of government service, I finally have the time to travel and get to know the world. My wife (60) and children (32, 36) are all working and will thus accompany me only on some of my trips.
-
As a proud native of Prague, I want as many people as possible to discover this great city and believe that my apartment and my neighborhood provide an ideal base for this.

The location at Prague-Letna cannot be beaten for the choice of bakeries, delicatessen, and other specialty shops as well as for its high-quality yet inexpensive cafes, pubs and restaurants. Countless Czech and other Central European, Italian, Chinese, Vietnamese, Greek, Indian, American, vegan, vegetarian, and other eateries, many of them takeout places, are within a radius of several blocks.
A well-stocked supermarket of the Austrian Billa chain is 100 meters away. The Holesovice market, Prague’s biggest, where you can buy fresh fruits and vegetables directly from growers, is also within walking distance.
Other attractions in the very close vicinity (one tram stop away) include the Sparta Prague soccer stadium and the Prague Tipsport Ice-Hockey Arena, which host many international soccer and ice-hockey matches, as well as concerts. “My” district of Prague-Letna also boasts five theaters (including the Pyramid Theater, widely known among Prague residents for its acclaimed productions of musicals such as Jesus Christ Superstar or Les Misérables), the fantastic Kino Oko art-house cinema, great art galleries (including Veletrzni Palace, a beautiful functionalist building dating from the 1920’s that houses the Czech National Gallery’s very rich collections of 20th and 21st centuries art, including Alfons Mucha's famous Slav Epic), and the awesome National Technical Museum, which is one of the best museums of its kind in the world.
