Our multi-level West Coast home is warm & inviting with a unique floor plan offering 2 separate living areas - both have high-speed internet, cable television, telephone & all appliances including washer & dryer. We've recently renovated/updated from top to bottom.
1) The 1st living area - Level 1 - is 1240 sq ft on garden level. There's a kitchen with laundry facilities, 2 bedrooms, 1 bathroom plus a living/dining area. There's also a 400 sq ft rec room/library with patio doors leading outside where the deer graze just outside the door.
2) The top living area has 2000 sq ft on 3 levels. Level 2 has a large foyer & 2 generous bedrooms - a queen bed in one & twin beds in the other. There's also a deluxe bathroom with shower & soaker tub as well as laundry facilities. Level 3 has a Great Room with vaulted cedar ceiling. It is separated from the Kitchen/Family area by a large slate fireplace. There's also a 2 piece bath. Level 4 is a loft studio/bedroom with a single bed and/or sofabed.
All floors have large decks & windows with views over the city, mountains & ocean or you can watch the eagles, vultures, jays, chickadees & squirrels. You're at their level in the trees!
Visiting family & friends often use our home so, depending on your dates, you could have access to either living area or both! Each has 2 bdrms (sleeps 4) + a queen sofabed. The areas are very separate & private, with garden access, so you will not be disappointed whatever the scenario!
Our home overlooks the West Shore - a suburb of Victoria on Vancouver Island, BC. Conde Nast Traveller has rated Vancouver Island as the top in North America & Victoria 3rd of the top 10 cities. The city is renown for its natural beauty & moderate climate (for Canada!) Summer average is 25C & winter average 10C.
The island is a special place where you can ski, surf, golf, hike, cycle or garden year-round. Our property has the feel of a “nature retreat” in the middle of the city. There are deer at your doorstep yet it's only minutes to amenities, beaches, parks, world-class golf, fishing, etc. Children can enjoy the property in the 2 storey fully-enclosed tree house built around a huge fir tree! There's also a 10 x 10 deck so they can play in natural surroundings.
We have a safe, friendly neighbourhood where privacy is respected but assistance is available if needed. Our children also live in Victoria & can help you settle in or share information to make your stay more enjoyable.
It's a 15 min drive to Victoria's world-famous attractions, galleries, shopping & restaurants. With public transit at the end of our cul-de-sac you can enjoy the ride & take in the sights.
The airport & BC Ferries terminal are a 30-40 min drive. The ferry ride through the gulf islands is amazingly beautiful and the ferries make regular stops allowing for day trips. To enjoy the cosmopolitan city life, it's a 90 min ferry ride to Vancouver. Ferries leave every hour.
We are a semi-retired couple with 4 adult children - Nigel (fuel industry), Kyla (grad student in marine research), Dion (banker) & Kristal (artist). Although we met & raised our family on Vancouver Island, Dwight is from Atlantic Canada & Barbara is from the Prairies.
Dwight is a farmboy & woodsman at heart! He’s an avid camper, fisherman, hunter & amateur photographer who can build or fix almost anything! After 30 years as a transit operator he recently retired but he’s never been busier ….. the building & renovation projects just keep coming his way (at home and from abroad)!
Barbara was a musician (violinist & pianist) in her younger years but spent 20 years in Arts Administration with the Victoria Symphony & Canadian College of Performing Arts while raising a family. Now semi-retired, she works with a Canadian magazine and spends the rest of her time reading, writing and concocting “worthy” community projects.
We have always been involved with people from varied walks of life in all parts of the world. Barbara’s background in fund development & marketing for non-profits has kept the entire family involved in voluntary community & fundraising projects.
We have also been B&B owners/hosts and done vacation swaps with other Canadian bed & breakfasts. However, we’ve never had the opportunity to travel abroad or do a home exchange. As retirement has given us more time & flexibility we’d now like to see more of the world.
