Located on Vancouver Island, Nanaimo is a 1 1/2 hour ferry ride from Vancouver and a 2 hour drive from the city of Victoria. Modern well maintained 2 level home of about 2600 sq. ft. with a warm sunny exposure. The interior is warm and inviting with a gas fireplace, comfortable newer furniture, very comfortable beds, an ensuite bathroom in the master bedroom, 2 other bathrooms. The lower floor features a pool table, extra refridgerator, and best of all a movie theater with tiered seating for 8 and a screen that is about 2 1/2 meters across. There is a large hot tub in a private area of the back yard that can be used in any weather. This area of our home is surrounded with similar homes and other families and is on a no through street with only local traffic. You can drive to beaches, parks, hiking trails and major shopping malls within 5 to 15 minutes. This area is famous for it's variety of outdoor activities available such as year round golfing, sailing, fishing, hiking, skiing, scuba diving, and much more. Our neighbourhood is a very safe and friendly family oriented development that is only about 5 years old. There are walking trails and public transportation just minutes away. Our street is not busy with traffic and children can safely play outdoors. Behind our home is a wooded lot that provides privacy without having someone too close to our home. We can be on a major highway in less than 5 minutes which allows us to effortlessly travel to other areas of scenic beauty and some of the best shopping malls on Vancouver Island. This area is not in the center of the city and is considered somewhat rural but not isolated.
The biggest island on the west coast of North America, Vancouver Island is almost twice the size of Hawaii. It is 451 kilometres (282 miles) long and covers 32,136 square kilometres (12,408 square miles). Much of the island is untamed wilderness.
Sharlene works for the power company here and travels all over the Island and Brian sells real estate in the city of Nanaimo and surrounding towns. We love to travel and plan to spend several months per year in a warm tropical climate when we retire in the next 5 years or hopefully less. We love the outdoors and have a summer cabin on a lake about an hours drive from our home. Boating is our favourite way to spend the warm summer days on the lake. We have grown children and 2 grandchildren in nearby Victoria.
We would like to go to Skopelos in August as our daughter is getting married into a Greek family that has relatives there. We also plan to be in Mexico this coming January or February preferrably on the west coast but are open to other areas of Mexico.
