Located in a very simple and charming fishermen's village about 12km from Paraty´s Downtown, the house is not luxurious but very comfortable. Built in a way that you can enjoy the view of the ocean from pretty much every room in the house.
The upper level is where the bedrooms are. We have 3 rooms that fit up to 6 travellers (+ 3 kids). All rooms have it's own bathroom and a selling fan to fresh it up on warm days. The upstairs terrace is perfect for relaxing. Comfortable couches and a hammock are great to read a book or take a nap.
Downstairs is the gathering area. A spacious living room connected to the kitchen and dinning table. A nice terrace to barbecue or enjoy a meal outside.
We do have a garage that fits one car. Parking is permitted in front of the house.
The village has a nice restaurant: Catarina's Restaurant. Under a pretty tree you can enjoy local dishes and diverse option of seafood. If you want to save some money, we do recommend cooking yourself some fresh seafood you can find at the local fishermen's market. It's also going to be a great experience.
The beach right you can see from the house is called Praia Grande (Big Beach) although it's not that big. It's not a good one to swim because it has the pier and many fisherman's boats. You can rent a boat for a day trip to enjoy the bay. It's highly recommended for nature lovers. You can ask the captain to stop at most of the islands, go snorkeling and if you are lucky enough, see some wildlife around.
Take a small trail from Praia Grande (10 minutes walk) towards Prainha to go for a swim. Calm water, perfect to enjoy a day at the beach. There is a restaurant at the beach if you want to try some appetizers or try the most famous Brazilian drink " caipirinha" made of pinga (sugar cane hard liquor), sugar, ice and fruits.
Luiz and Lucia (mom and dad) are in their sixties and are starting to slow down and enjoy their retirement. We, "the kids,", Fernando (32) and Marina (30) grew up travelling with them on amazing road trips and quite some travelling around the world. We recently decided to share one of the most special places for us: our beach house. It's the place we take our loved ones to relax and to celebrate life.
The Brazilian government has recognized Paraty as a National Historic Site since 1966.
Set amid jutting peninsulas and secluded beaches, with a backdrop of steep, jungled mountains plunging into an island-studded bay, Paraty is one of Brazil’s most appealing and exquisitely preserved historical gems.
Paraty’s colonial center is remarkable not only for its centuries-old architecture, but also for its lack of automobile traffic. The irregular cobblestone streets are closed to motor vehicles, making it a delightful place to stroll about. Elegant white buildings adorned with fanciful multihued borders and latticed windows blend harmoniously with the natural beauty that envelops the town. [lonelyplanet.com]
Paraty a charming historic town: 12 km from the village the house is located, is known for the cobblestone-paved streets throughout the Historic Center District. It has been able to maintain many of its historic buildings. Much of the architecture of the city has not changed for 250 years or more. Streets are filled with restaurants (a bunch of them with live music), craft shops and some street artists greeting the tourists.
Beaches: the bay has pretty islands but if you are not into a boat ride mood, you can visit some places by car: Trindade is a good pick for surf lovers.
Waterfalls: some good options but we recommend researching the possibilities in the tourist information centre. There you can also ask about bike riding, scuba diving, stand up paddling and much more. We can also give you more details on places to visit depending on your preferences.
