My home is a typical Brussels house: narrow and high. (And no garden, but that's not a bummer for us).
There is the ground floor with the small entrance (useless, because just too small, I have to admit), then the dining room with street view, then living room with TV and the piano, and finally the kitchen.
On the fist floor, we have our parental room and the family bathroom (there is another toilet downstairs), the dressing and our office corners. Mine has a balcony, and I love sitting there in the summer sun for my breaks!
The last floor is for the kids: my daughter has the furthest room of the house, and my son has a double floor room: he sleeps under the roof and has some extra room space for his gaming and friends. You will find some other musical entertainment there, as ukulele, kazoo, a violin, cellos, if it's pouring rain, and you get bored, you can play kazoo and piano simultaneously for instance, and discover a new talent of yours!
We started remodeling this year and will remain a little bit wip: the staircases will have to wait but we have a brand new roof, family bathroom, and kitchen. Kids rooms are also remodeled.
We live in Auderghem, one of the 19 Brussels communes (discticts). It is one of the greenest, with lushy parks all around and direct access to Foret de Soignes (Unesco heritage). It is also right on the highway to Paris/Luxembourg (that was one of our criteria).
The metro line is 350m from home, and is taking you straightaway to Grand Place/Downtown in about 20 min (Gare Centrale station).
The bus is 140m from home and is taking you directly to the EU quarters in about 20-30min.
The Tram is 300m from home and is taking you the the Louise district (shopping, Marolles, Old Brussels Town)
We were looking for a home that would be convenient in terms of mobility for our children to grow up and live the city life, but also green enough to take us out for walks.
And direct access to Paris and Luxembourg where our family is.
There are several restaurants nearby (take away for now, or delivery): Italian, Lebanse, Japanese, Thai, Chinese, traditional etc.
And at least two major supermarkets at walking distance.
