The apartment is new (built 2003), spacious (about 1720 sq. ft./160 sq. meters), on the ground-floor, and it has a garden (so it is very child-friendly).
The living-room is painted in warm colours (a soft yellow & brown) and very cosy indeed, with a nice view on the garden, and attached to it is a modern kitchen which makes cooking a piece of cake. There are two bedrooms, one of which has baby-furniture, and an office (which can also serve as a bedroom), with an extensive library (containing English, German, and a little bit of French and Dutch literature, lots of philosophy and psychology), a computer and a printer, as well as a harpsichord.
The people in the building are in general very friendly. The building forms part of a larger complex which has the shape of the castle, with our building constituting a tower.
I am Peter and Katrien is my wife. I am at present working on a PhD in historical linguistics of English, and plan to visit Houston as a visiting scholar in 2008-2009 for about 5 months (with a flexible date of departure somewhere in between October and January 2008). I will bring my wife, who is a psychotherapist, and my two children (a 2 year-old boy and a ? of a couple of months by then).
The apartment is located nearby the beautiful park "Rivierenhof", as well as major public transportation lines (especially Berchem Station). It is a 15 minute drive/25 minute bike to Antwerp, and about an hour driving (by car or train) to Leuven, Brussels or Ghent. It is also within a couple of hours to Bruges, Rotterdam, Amsterdam, Paris and Cologne.
The neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful, with only a little bit of noise from the nearby highway. Several supermarkets and shops of all kinds (and also a hospital) are situated at walking distance.
