“Anke, Henri, Mathilde and Joost are very nice. Communication with them has been very smooth. The house is old and well restored. It has a beautiful garden with a porch that makes it very pleasant breakfast and dinner there. It has a large kitchen open to the living room. The house is very well connected with the center of Antwerp by bus (Line 22 direct) and the Train Station (direct line 21). You can park in front of the house. Antwerp is a city with a beautiful historic center and well maintained with many restaurants and shopping pleasant and free of cars where you can walk without stress. The city is also well connected to Brussels, Bruges, Ghent and Leuven. Do not miss the Rubens House Museum or the auction-market on Friday morning. Thank you for such good care of our house. Regards, Pere, Isabel, Narcís and Cristina”

“Anke and Henri are very helpful and easy to arrange an exchange with. In our case it was non-simultaneous; they let us use their house when we needed and they will use our flat in Nice later. The house is very comfortable and pleasant with a nice small garden and a good kitchen. There is a bus nearby; it takes about 30 minutes to the centre of Antwerp. Parking is not a problem near the house. Antwerp, of course, is a very enjoyable and most interesting city. It is much under-rated; there is lots to see and do, and other cities such as Bruges are nearby and easy to get to. One can have a great holiday there. We enjoyed it very much.”
“My wife and I did an exchange with Anke this past summer and she and her family were an absolute joy to work with. We had 3 other exchanges fall through because of people changing their minds, but Anke was not like that. Whatever she tells you you can rely on. It was a non simultaneous exchange - we used their home in June, and they used our condo this past December. We thoroughly enjoyed their home in Antwerp - it is two story, spacious, and very well equipped. There is high-speed internet and Anke provided many tourist brochures and maps for our use. We did have a bit of confusion with the washer - so you will want to get explicit instructions for its use from Anke. There is a lovely patio where we spent evenings eating dinner. There is a small bakery across the street and down a couple of houses, but it is unmarked, so you will have to watch closely for its opening. We enjoyed the nightly ice cream truck that visited the neighborhood, as well as the friendly neighbors. The initial entrance to the area is nondescript in its appearance and is a bit industrial, but did not detract from our enjoyment - their home is two blocks off the main street. Their house is in a residential neighborhood (Wilrikt) and, if you prefer not to drive, there is a bus stop 1 block away that will take you to the train station for day trips to Brugge, Brussels, Ghent, etc., or to downtown Antwerp. We enjoyed taking public transportation, but it is an easy ten minute drive into Antwerp if you prefer to drive. Be sure to get a "parking map" that details parking areas and their pricing so that you are aware of the different charges and days. Antwerp itself is an undiscovered gem. Open air markets, cafes, restaurants, museums, galleries, the diamond district, an open-air sculpture museum, many beautiful churches and cathedrals are among the many attractions of this beautiful city. Be sure to visit the farmer's markets and the Friday auction. There is plenty of sightseeing in Antwerp, and surrounding areas. You will surely not regret making the decision to exchange with Anke - she is most assuredly helpful, cooperative and exceptionally easy to exchange with. We especially enjoyed the tour of Leiden canals that Anke gave to us upon our arrival. She was always available for any questions we had - we most definitely recommend this exchange.”
“We loved the house that was so cosy, it was very well situated to visit Belgium and Holland, two diferent countries even if they are close. Cities are beautiful, people are very nice, open minded and calm. they really are countries to visit!!”
Where is it?
The neighbourhood is a rather quiet part of Antwerp, Wilrijk with very good connections to the city center. You can take a bus across the house, a car or even go by bicycle. It takes only 10 minutes by car or bus.
Antwerp is an international city and famous for its old medieval city center with the diamond shops, the museums, chinatown, the river de Schelde (with a beach in summer) and the harbour with all kind of cruises. A lot of restaurants, shops (especially at the Meir and the Keyserlei), theatres and an excellent nightlife are available. There are also very nice parks and a very special big Zoo.
Trendy quarters are "Het Zuid", "Het Eilandje" and the Quartier Latin. Whole year around there is a lot to do, in summer a lot of mostly free festivals, in winter the christmas-market and at new year a very big fireworks show at the Schelde. The surrounding villages have their own festivals in summer. These festivals are visited by the whole population of Belgians, despite their age.
You can also bike very well through and around Antwerp on special made bike-paths. The villages around Antwerp are beautiful. From our house you can go in a short while (by bike or car) through the country.
From Antwerp you can travel very easy to Brussels, Gent, Brugge -the Belgian, French or Dutch coast-, Holland, England,Germany or Luxembourg. You can reach all this destinations within 1 to 3 hours. Paris and Amsterdam in approximately 2 hours.
Very nearby our house you can find a nice green square where you can let your children play safely.
Belgium is a wonderful country, the people are friendly and polite. They always try to help you. Most of them speak at least french or english.
The Belgians like a burgundian way of life, they love good food and wine. The Belgian beer and genevers are worldfamous. They are still made in little breweries you can visit.
Antwerp is a gem with a beautiful centre, a lot of restaurants and pubs. Like a smaller, cozier Paris but not so expensive.
We are sure you will love it too!
