The ultimate city / rural getaway!
Our beautiful home just outside Vienna includes 230 m² of floor space and comprises the ground floor of an original, still-functioning wine chateau from the 13th century--one of the oldes wine estates in all of Europe. The entire property belongs to our family; parents (in-law) live upstairs (separate entrance!) and wine restaurant is across the courtyard, within the same complex. Private chapel, large private garden (about 500m²) to the rear--in addition to the larger gardens belonging to the property. Situated in a beautiful wine-growing town, we are about 30 minutes from downtown Vienna by car (depending on traffic) or 35-45 minutes by direct bus to the State Opera House (the bus stop is only 100m from our door and the bus runs from about 5am until 2am, directly to the centre of the city!). Thus an ideal base for a city / rural getaway. Train station 500m, supermarket 500m, historic spa town of Baden is 2km away. Vienna airport 30 mins by car. Vineyards, spas, Vienna woods, wine taverns, fishing / fly fishing, sports facilities, world-class golf course, tennis courts, swimming pools etc. all in immediate vicinity.
The apartment was completely refurbished in 2007 and includes oak parquetry floors (in some rooms), solid wood kitchen with granite tops, vaulted ceilings, two televisions, four bedrooms plus study, two living rooms, and a large private garden with gas barbecue. We have five beautiful children (4, 5, 6, 9 and 11 years of age). Non-smokers and no pets.
The ground floor apartment includes a master bedroom with double bed and en suite bathroom; a study with a large flat-screen television and fold-out couch bed; a small children's room with bunk bed; a large children's room with bunk bed plus single bed; plus one additional single room. Designer kitchen with granite benches, wine fridge, and large door into garden. Ideally suited to a family with children, though additional adults could also feel comfortable.
With the exception of three weeks in August, during a large wine festival, it is possible to park your car in the main courtyard, and to unload luggage / shopping at our front door.
We normally sleep in total tranquility, but our daughter, a light sleeper, has occasionally felt disturbed by music from the restaurant on a Saturday night (e.g. a wedding celebration). The master bedroom is on the other side of the building and is completely unaffected by external noise.
For somebody looking for the best of wine, architecture and culture, combined with visits to downtown Vienna, this is probably as good as it gets.
I am a management consultant and sometime wine goon and my wife is a university lecturer, currently at home with our children.
Cleaner available as needed; high-quality food at good prices from Tues to Sunday on-site (restaurant) or at other taverns in our street. English-speaking people on site.
