Notre maison

Green lawns surround our bright and cute 1930's house in the quiet riverside suburb of Bassendean which features, high ornate ceilings, polished Jarrah (Local Native Timber) floors, leadlight windows, large original artworks on the walls and a large kitchen.

Overlooking neat gardens at the rear of the house is a huge and private outdoor deck for barbecuing and socialising all year round. The front of the house features a smaller raised deck perfect for sunset drinks and saying hello to the locals out for a walk.

Our house is conveniently walking distance to the river, parks, cafes, skate park, train, bus, shopping centre, banks, post office, news agent, and medical facilities.

Bassendean is the gateway to the 'Swan Valley' Wine Region and adjoins the Historic suburb of Guildford which is certified as an historic town by the National Trust of Australia.

The traditional owners of the Swan Valley are the Nyoongar people who have lived in the area for over 40,000 years. Their creation stories tell of the giant serpent or crocodile like creature called the Wagyl, travelling from the hills in the east to the ocean in the west, creating the Swan River on its way. The Swan River is the Wagyl’s home and it continues to reside there today.

It was the fertile soil of the Swan Valley that led to the first European settlement at Guildford soon after the Swan River Colony was established by Captain James Stirling in 1829. The river quickly became the first highway through the region, and Guildford developed into a busy river port and trading centre.

Hello. My name is Ben and my wife's name is Helen. We are a 40ish year old couple with no children. We do have 2 cats named Lady Lotus Blossom and Leopold the Brave.

We were married in Slovenia in July 2008 after 8 years together. Our Honeymoon was spent in Croatia and Slovakia. Apart from obvious relaxation, wining and dining, part of the reason we are interested in a home exchange is to get a feel for living in Slovenia and Slovakia with a view to buy property and ultimately live, learn the language and work there for a couple of years.

I am 38 and was born in the outback gold mining town of Kalgoorlie 600km east of Perth. I work freelance in both the wine and music industries. The flexibility allows me to travel and the diversity of work allows me to be creative. I kayak and cycle often.

Helen is 42 and was born in the dry wheat and sheep farming area of Wickipin 300km south east of Perth. Helen works in Human Services and is passionate about fashion design, painting, fitness, gardening and loves the beach.
