This is our family holiday house at Island Beach on Kangaroo Island. It has two bedrooms, a living room and a dining room. In bedroom 1 there is a queen bed. In Bedroom 2 there is a bunk bed and a king single bed. The living room has two sofas (one which is a sofa bed), a telelvion and cd/dvd player. We can set up for babies/toddlers (there is a porta cot, a highchair, and we can provide car seats for all ages if you request). The kitchen is clean and functional with an oven, microwave and Miele dishwasher. There is one bathroom with a shower, and a bath. There is a separate toilet. The house uses rainwater. The house is compact, and peaceful. It has a large deck, and absolute beach front views to the sandy beach and the sea. There is a barbeque on the deck, along with outdoor furniture.
The beach is often quiet, even in summer. The beach water is pristine and crystal clear. The beach is great for long walks as well as water activities. At dusk, wallabies can be seen (and heard!) from our deck, and when walking to the local shop wallabies can be spied in their natural habitat. There are beautiful Australian birds at the front door, Pelicans rest on the beach, there are also Oyster Catchers, Pacific Gulls, Swans, Cormorants, Curlews, Sea gulls and Sand pipers. The gorgeous Blue Wrens often hop onto our deck for a quick check.
This can be both a peaceful and action packed holiday. You can explore the beach, or take the car to explore the island. There are so many things to do on Kangaroo Isalnd; surfing, bush walking, snorkelling, sand surfing, fishing, swimming. The local shop is a short walk and has basic food items and petrol. 16 kms away at Penneshaw, where the ferry docks, there is an IGA food shop, a liquor store, a pub, gift shop, a hotel, pizzeria as well as fish and chip shop and a petrol station. The pub and the hotel serve meals. At American River approximately 15 kms in the other direction there is a food/gift store, a wine liquor store, and restaurants and a petrol pump. At American river there is also a fishing jetty, playground, an aquatic reserve, and some lovely coastal/bush walks. Kingscote is approximately 45 kms away, and is the main town in the island. There are pubs, restaurnts, a jetty, gift shops, harware shops etc. The towns are all fairly small and quaint. For more infromation vistit: http://www.tourkangarooisland.com.au/default.aspx
While the beach house is a family home, the owners are myself a clinical psychologist, and my mother, a social worker. I have two boys aged 8 and 7. We are happy to welcome you to our holiday house! As this is our beach house it can be a non simultaneous swap. We also have a house in Adelaide, which we can also swap. This house has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, two lounge areas, and a kitchen. Outside there is a 10x4 inground private pool. The exchange group will be myself, my 2 boys and my mother.
