Our house is a modern, breezy, open plan, 2 level, comfortable family home. It has modern amenities with 2 bathrooms, separate laundry with outside drying facilities and a kitchen with a dishwasher, gas hotplates and electric oven. The main bedroom is on the upper level and has an ensuite bathroom and large walk in wardrobe. The other 2 bedrooms are on the lower level, as is the office and another living room and bathroom.
The house has airconditioning and ceiling fans but the breezes usually keep the house cool.
The swimming pool is located outside on the upper level and can be seen from the living areas.
There is a large covered balcony at the front of the house overlooking the view of the Coral sea and local islands.
There is a range of shops nearby, some within walking distance and others a 5 minute drive away. The manicured beach front (The Strand) is also 5 minutes away and has swimming, barbeques and play areas. There are also cafes and restaurants in this area.
Townsville is in the 'dry tropics' with almost every day being sunny and warm.
The neighbourhood is a quiet residential one with a mix of families with children and older couples. The street does not have through traffic. There is a small local shopping centre a few minutes walk away and a larger shopping centre 5 minutes by car.
It is a hillside location with lovely views and cool breezes.
Townsville provides a tropical lifestyle. There is swimming at the local beaches. There is a ferry to Magnetic Island (which is about 8 Kms offshore) where you can swim, go bush walking, horse riding and relax. Trips can be made to the local wildlife park to see native animals and to the village of Paluma (the village in the clouds) to the rain forest and to swim in a cool mountain stream. And you can take a trip to the Great Barrier reef to see the coral and tropical fish, go diving, snorkelling and fishing. The Museum of Tropical Queensland has the Pandora exhibition with relics from the ship Pandora which sank while taking some of the captured "Bounty"' mutineers back to England. Reef HQ has a coral reef aquarium and guided tours, fish feeding and touch tanks.
We are a semi-retired couple working in the medical field. Our adult children no longer live at home.
We have three sons- the eldest a lawyer is working in London, the middle one is an engineer, is married and lives in New Zealand and the youngest is a doctor and works in Brisbane.
The main hobby for our family is our 38' yacht which is moored at a marina a few minutes from our home. We have sailed around the local area from the Whitsundays to Cairns. The longest trips are from Mooloolabah (just north of Brisbane) to Townsville when we purchased our current yacht and north to Lizard Island.
With sailing and work there is not much spare time.
We have one small dog (a Terrier cross)who pretty much orders the household to look after her every need.
