Our home is in Bundanoon village, in the beautiful Southern Highlands of New South Wales, just a few minutes stroll from the shops and from Morton National Park with its many scenic walking tracks, picnic spots, breathtaking views and waterfalls.
The home is very comfortable and has been extensively renovated. There are separate living and dining rooms, three bedrooms, one bathroom, fully equipped kitchen and a large native garden attracting a host of colourful wild birds. There is a seperate laundry, garage, studio and reverse cycle airconditioning.
The Southern Highlands are perfectly located as a base for touring New South Wales, being just over an hour from Sydney, an hour from the beautiful and unspoilt south coast beaches and two hours from Canberra. The area is renown for its natural beauty and boasts many golf courses and wineries. Bowral, the main township and a 15 minute drive from Bundanoon, is a vibrant centre with boutiques, restaurants, antique stores as well as supermarkets.
The village of Bundanoon (www.bundanoon.com.au) is the gateway to the 130,000 hectare Morton National Park. It retains a lovely old-world atmosphere and there are some good craft shops, several excellent art galleries, cafes and tea rooms, restaurants, a pub and licensed Bowling Club and a railway station with a regular service to Sydney city.
Each year in April, Bundanoon becomes Brigadoon for a day, hosting one of the largest highland gatherings in New South Wales. It is a nonstop day of Scottish entertainment - massed pipe bands, highland games and dancing.
There are lots of famous lookouts ('Echo Point", "Fairy Bower") near the village, wild flowers, flocks of native bird and camping area. At the end of the day, walk down to "Glow Worm Glen" or stroll to the edge of town to see kangaroos and wallabies.
We are Pat and Don, supposedly retired, but very busy in the local community. We moved to the Southern Highlands from Sydney a few years ago and love the life here. We share our home with a very independent cat, Ellie-May, who would prefer to stay at home whilst we are exchanging. Of course, we would be very happy to care for any pets in an exchange home. Pat is Australian, Don is originally from UK and we would love to return to is homeland for a visit in 2007. Although Don's family and some old friends reside in the north of England we would be open to offers anywhere in the UK for a stay of about 4 - 6 weeks, but we are most flexible.
