The Butchard Gardens a perennial favorite of visitors is a fifteen minute drive and easy to locate as are many things in town. Downtown is a lovely walk along the galloping goose of perhaps 25 minutes. Most of everything, theatre, music, dancing, dining are all within minutes driving. Four houses away is the number 11 bus which will take you downtown in less than 10 minutes, to the university and it's lovely gardens, "Finerty". A four hour drive has you at the famous Long Beach on the west coast of Vancouver Island. The ferry at Swartz Bay can get you to day trips to most of the Southern Gulf Islands. There are numerous golf courses within minutes for those who golf. The parliment buildings and the world renowned Empress are within minutes in the harbour. There are many music, food, car, boating and entertainment options for all tastes. Farm markets and other local area outdoor markets are great for locally grown food (organic) and arts and crafts.
I'm work in land development and we are currently doing a project in the downtown area for high end condominiums just two blocks from the inner harbour.
I love theatre and in the last two weeks have seen two great and not expensive productions, one by local talent and the other by New Zealanders. I've recently gone to an early music concert, seen two great movies, one foreign (the university cinema is good for eclectic choices) had a walk about at the Butchard Gardens in the twinkling christmas displays. The options here are endless as I'm sure they are everywhere. Lately though it seems all of these shows have a pointed message that is telling me not to squander my time and to see other interesting places in the world. I haven't seen much of the world, just brief glimpses, Italy, Greece, Mexico, the French West Indies, Jamaica, Porto Rico, and some of the states in the U.S. It isn't the same though as going somewhere were it has a sense of being at home. Youth hostels and hotels always have a sense of impermanence. Not that I'm looking for a years exchange but the feeling I get when I go to a new place that might be different with this kind of travel.
I'm healthy, active and like to read both fiction and fact. I like a tidy place so you can count on the place being in order when you arrive.
I'm considerate and respectful of other peoples lifestyle and choices so hope to have the same provided in return. I suppose that means I take off my shoes, clean up after myself if I spill etc.
I'm no longer the clumsy teenager who bumps into things knocks them over only to break. I'm engaged now with my environment. I actively recycle, compost and try to be measured in my use of energy and buying power. I try to do my part for the environment.
I love, love to garden and if there is one to sit in fabulous. Hiking, walking, biking are all easy to do here and hopefully there too.
