Notre maison

Our flat is a two-storey, 2200 square foot, open concept space in the north west corner of a low rise condo building which was originally built as offices. Walls of windows facing spectacular sunsets and views of the Gatineau Hills flood this high-ceiling’d space with natural light. The main floor has a 60 foot long great room with kitchen, dining and living rooms. There is also a foyer, 2-piece guest bath, and laundry/mechanical room in addition to the master suite which comprises a good sized bedroom with queen size bed, large double closets and ensuite bath with walk-in shower. The second floor offers another bedroom with queen size bed, full bath, family room with walls of bookshelves and patio doors to a private, 400 square foot, rooftop patio half of which is covered with a rain proof awning. The deck has ample seating, a dining table, Great Big Green Egg BBQ (charcoal) and a hot tub (Softub).
We’re on the top floor, the 5th, and there is an elevator.

The location is hip and funky Hintonburg meeting trendy Wellington Village. Close to downtown, it is very much an urban residential neighbourhood renowned for food (shopping & dining out) along Wellington Street, aka, Epicurean Row, and for the arts with numerous galleries and artists’ studios. Gord does the food shopping & cooking in our house but with the diversity of farmers’ markets, delis, specialty shops and high end catering take-aways, he doesn’t shop, he forages.

Nearby there are fish shops, meat butchers, health food stores, caterers who also offer prepared foods of the day or frozen, local craft brewers.
Restaurants include everything from gastropub, ethnic, Ottawa’s star chefs, local coffee shops all within an easy walk for a calorie neutral dinner!

We are near the mighty Ottawa River, Ottawa’s outstanding recreation paths which traverse the city and out into rural Ontario farm land. On Sundays, some of Ottawa’s main roadways are closed for cyclists, rollerbladers, runners & walkers. We have two adult bikes available.
First Thursdays of each month, many of the local galleries stay open late as people from all over Ottawa stroll from gallery to gallery, spoilt for choice for comfortable places to stop for a glass of wine or a great coffee.
First Saturdays of each month, young local entrepreneurs sell their wares at Urban Craft across the street in the lobby of the professional theatre.

For a national capital, Ottawa is somewhat small but it is a wonderful city with a growing reputation for outstanding food, green everywhere and exciting downtown festivals: Franco Ontarien, Jazz, Chamberfest, and Bluesfest to name a few.

There are national museums & galleries and public recreational lands around the 3
great rivers which converge here, the Ottawa, the Rideau and the Gatineau and the historic Rideau Canal which bypasses un-navigable sections of the Rideau River. Most of the shores of these four waterways are public lands with diverse green spaces for the enjoyment of all.
Our flat offers room for 2 couples comfortably; more for an intimate family group. The sofa in the family room upstairs opens into a double bed.
