Welcome to Duncan and Vancouver Island! Our home is new and architecturally designed with all the mod cons. It is an open-plan design with original artwork throughout. We are on a quiet, dead-end street with very friendly neighbours, all of whom we know well. Our home overlooks a lake and fields.
We welcome families with or without children. Our 10-year-old has grown up respecting our house; he is well travelled and well behaved.
Duncan is on Vancouver Island, ranked North America's top island to visit. Yep, that's in the whole of North America. Vancouver Island sits off the south-west coast of the Canadian mainland. Duncan is a small and very sweet town and has a reputation as the "boutique capital" of Vancouver Island. It also has the cultural honour of being the City of Totems, and includes a wonderful native cultural centre. Duncan's Saturday market has been voted best market in British Columbia. It sells local organic produce and hand-made crafts. In fact our Valley has a thriving organic way of life. We're also proud of the many fine wineries, cafes and restaurants in our area, including some out-of-the way gems.
About 15 minutes north is Chemainus, well known for its 30+ murals that adorn the town and for its world-class Chemainus Theatre Festival (http://www.chemainustheatrefestival.ca/). Ten minutes south of us is the unique and historic waterfront community of Cowichan Bay, (http://www.cowichanbay.com/) Cowichan Bay was the first town in the world to be declared a "slow food" town. (Yes . . . no fast food outlets allowed!)
Close by is also the historic Kinsol Trestle - one of the tallest free-standing and most spectacular timber rail trestles in the world.
Day trips can be easily made to the many Gulf Islands that lie between us and the mainland, as well as the American San Juan Islands. These islands are vibrant, laid-back and funky.
Every outdoor pursuit you can imagine is right at our doorstep, including excellent golf courses, kayaking, scuba diving (want to dive into the world's first-ever sunken 747?), hiking, lake swimming, river tubing, cycling, skiing and on it goes. We have bicycles, a canoe, a kayak and tennis racquets available to exchange families. You can launch the kayak or canoe at the end of our street.
Duncan is an hour's drive north of the lovely city of Victoria. Victoria, Duncan and all of Vancouver Island are very popular tourist destinations, especially in spring when the flowers are magnificent. If you enjoy wine touring, any outdoor pursuits, cultural experiences, theatre, great restaurants and other delights then you might want to consider coming to Vancouver Island.
You can check out all that is wonderful about the Cowichan Valley by going to http://www.cowichan.bc.ca. Information about Vancouver Island, including Victoria can be found at: http://www.vancouverisland.travel
