About our home
Our Queenslander home was built circa1920, and has traditional features, such as stained glass windows, polished wooden floors, and high ornate ceilings. Yet it has all the facilities one would expect for modern day living, we have reverse cycle air conditioning, entertaining decks, one looks over the large in ground swimming pool. Our large 3 bedroom house is ideal for families or couples. There is one studio bedroom with cloakroom facilities which is separate from the main house, on the ground floor, it is perfect for teenagers or a couple that are looking for a little privacy. The house is set in a lush tropical garden, and has a private setting; we are in a quiet tree lined avenue, just 5 kilometres from Brisbane CBD. I would not recommend our home for small children as the garden is not fully fenced, except for the swimming pool area.

We have large decks and cool spaces in which to relax, have a barbeque whilst admiring the native fauna and wildlife. The weather in Brisbane is superb; the temperature even on our coldest night during winter would go down to about 8 degrees with sunny days of about 18 to 25. The temperature during spring, summer and autumn ranges from 20 to 35 degrees although occasionally it can get hotter.
Out and about in Brisbane.
Just 200 metres at the top of the avenue is the main road, where buses run into the city approximately every 10 minutes. You will be in The Queen Street Mall in just 15 minutes and enjoy the shopping, bars, restaurants, museums, botanical gardens and much more. Even closer is South Bank, you just get off the bus a few stops before the city, it is a great place to explore, go for a swim, enjoy a drink in a river front bar, have a picnic or barbeque or enjoy fine dining. It's also the home of the Gallery of Modern Art and the Queensland Museum; they always have really interesting exhibitions. Why not walk by the river to Kangaroo Point Cliffs, which again is avery popular tourist attraction, you can rock climb up the cliffs or abseil down.. If you’re not feeling that brave or energetic, why not take a picnic and take pleasure in the free barbeques and picnic areas, you will enjoy the great scenery of the city across the river. For the sporting enthusiast, you will find Woolloongabba just 3.5 kilometres from your home base, this is the famous home of cricket and football. For the tennis lover the Pat Rafter Centre is just 3 kilometres distance away. Of course there are also the amazing islands of Moreton and Stradbroke just off the coast of Brisbane (about 30 - 45 minutes by boat/barge) which needs to be experienced to be believed! Here at certain times of the year you can watch the dolphins and whales. You might like to visit these web sites, for what’s on and where to go. www.visitbrisbane.com.au www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/whats-on.
Further afield South of Brisbane
Just one hour car ride to the south of our house, is Surfers Paradise on The Gold Coast and its great surfing beaches, restaurants, bars and night life. In the hinterland of the Gold Coast you have magnificent National Parks like Springbrook National Park. If it’s entertaining the children you are looking for, there is endless fun to be had at the theme parks, Movie World, Sea World and Wet and Wild. Travel another hour further on and you will find the famous Byron Bay (you will be in the state of New South Wales), again another great spot for everybody who loves surfing and relaxing. The town is relatively small with some pubs and some hostels. Cape Byron is the most easterly point of the Australian main land.
Further afield North of Brisbane
About an hour or so to the north of Brisbane you have the Sunshine Coast. This is our favourite weekend getaway. It has some stunning beaches and beautiful national parks. Here you will find the very popular destination of Noosa, offering a lovely swimming beach and national park, not to mention the exclusive boutiques on Hastings Street. On the way, you can drop into the famous Australia Zoo (run by the Irwin family) and other beautiful places to visit on this coast line is Mooloolaba (our favourite) and Coolum . Perhaps you might like to go inland from here and go to Montville and visit the craft shops, good restaurants, whilst enjoying the most beautiful hill top views.
