Notre maison

Our home is situated in South East Queensland at Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, some 100 klms from the capital of Brisbane. Caloundra is the beginning of the Sunshine Coast which stretches some 40 klms and takes in Maroochydore and Noosa to the North. Safe swimming beaches abound and very attractive walking areas. 30 minutes drive takes you to the hinterland where there are many National Parks and interesting small towns. This area offers all one needs to have a very enjoyable holiday as many Australians do. Our weather is usually very good with our winters mild and sunny.

We are situated 10 minutes walk from our major surfing beach. New Salt Water pool (free) and community areas. Our small city can supply all your needs and a short drive will take you to major shopping centres. Bowling Clubs, Tennis Courts and all sporting facilities. We have a racing track with races held fairly frequently. Many clubs who welcome visitors. A very good library. Public transport is available and the train line to Brisbane and the North can be accessed by public bus from Caloundra.

My husband Rex and I came to Australia in 1958 as ten pound poms from Gloucestershire in the U.K. We have been able to travel to most areas of Australia with our three daughters who are now married with their own families. We lived in the Brisbane suburbs for all our working life, Rex was maintenance foreman at the Gas Corporation and I held several secretarial positions within the Anglican Church. We came to the coast on our retirement to help one daughter who had a disabled child, Andrew is now 14 so as most of us do we have our ups and downs. In our retirement we have travelled to many places, most with the help of Home Exchange. I have never lost my love for England, I suppose I didn't discover it until I had left. In April we will travel to Japan to attend our American son in law's change of command ceremony at a naval base and spend some time there with our youngest daugher Clair. We will then travel a little in Japan, not very many home exchanges in Japan as yet, unfortunately. Afterwards we hope to have an exchange somewhere in the world and are open to all offers. Our daughter Wendy who lives very close usually meets our exchangees and helps them to settle in our home. Our son-in-law Michael has a medical practice in Caloundra. Our eldest daughter Gail lives on acreage in the outskirts of Brisbane and would welcome you to visit her. Our home is modest but comfortable. We have had many exchanges all different and we have enjoyed each and every one. As far as we can ascertain our exchangees have enjoyed our area. In fact this Christmas we are renewing our friendship with the second exchange we did in Norfolk as the couple have returned to do another exchange in the area with someone who wanted to experience a cold Christmas in the U.K.
